The Future

Th Past and The Future

Our nation can look back with gratitude for the influence of Christian men and women. This booklet has named just a few of the many who have achieved so much. None of them was perfect; they made mistakes. But they were not Christians merely in name. They have left on record their personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the firm belief in the truth of the Bible. Their faith in God played a major part in their achievements.

Of course, not all good and humanitarian deeds have been done by Christians, but true Christianity still offers our nation values that we must never lose. Values like respect for life, care for the weak and vulnerable, the importance of freedom and justice, the dignity of work, the faithful relationship of one man and one woman in marriage, and personal responsibility.

So, we can look back gratefully. But Christians can also look forward confidently. It is part of their message that one day Jesus Christ will return in honour and power to make everything new.

Meanwhile, wherever there are people there is the challenge to be a more caring society. The followers of Jesus Christ continue to seek to obey the instructions found in the Bible, to ‘preach the good news’ and ‘to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God’.
